Agartala Nov 19: The Congress on Saturday launched “Tripura Bachao-Bharat Jodo Yatra” in the state from the party headquarters in Agartala.
A total of 1200km under all 60 assembly constituencies in 14 selected locations will be covered by this march in seven days.
According to pre-announced schedule the walkathon started on Saturday morning with offering rich tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary.
AICC In-charge for Tripura, Dr Ajoy Kumar, Tripura Pradesh Congress president Brijit Sinha and presidents of other frontal organizations of TPCC hoisted the party flag in front of Congress Bhavan, Agartala.
Also, to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Congress Stalwart Indira Gandhi, tribute was paid at the Gandhi Ghat premises.
Later, with former Tripura chief minister Sameer Ranjan Barman, former TPCC president Gopal Roy, AICC secretary Szarita Laitphlang, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, former MLA and veteran Congress leader Asish Kumar Saha along with Dr Ajoy Kumar and Brijit Sinha led the march at the front.
The foot march received a huge response on Day-1 where thousands of congress activists from across the state joined the rally.
The Congress leaders stressed on the importance of the march adding that this journey will help in restoration of democratic rights of the people of Tripura.
Lone Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman said, “We are fighting for the people of the state. Thus yatra is not for the Congress but to highlight the issues that the common people of all sections are forced to go through”.
Briefing the press at the Congress Bhavan AICC In-Charge for Tripura Pradesh Congress, Dr Ajoy Kumar said, “The people of Tripura are frustrated with numerous topics like ‘Bike Bahini’, murders, atrocities on women including rapes of minor girls, violence, unemployment, hiked prices of essential commodities and many more. Starting from the daily labour to the salaried government employee, all are going through hardships because of the mis-governance under the ruling BJP”.
“Tripura Bachao-Bharat Jodo Yatra is to free the people from the misrule of BJP”, he added.
Dr Ajoy Kumar urged the common people to join the yatra in large numbers and lend support to the party to restore democracy and law and order in the state.
All members of Pradesh Congress Committee as well as district and block level leaders will take active part in making the campaign successful across the state.
According to political analysts, the mega foot march under the banner of “Tripura Bachao-Bharat Jodo yatra” will also give a boost to the party workers and the organization ahead of the crucial 2023 assembly polls.
Meanwhile, on Day-1 of the mega march, several congress activists were allegedly attacked by BJP workers in Belonia, Chottakhala area and few other places.
Although complaints have been lodged at the respective police stations, but no action has been taken by the police yet.
