Congress leaders slam power crisis; Demand immediate action on Prepaid Server Failures

Mounting public anger over frequent server breakdowns in the prepaid electricity recharge system has prompted the Teliamura Block Congress to hold a press conference on Tuesday, sharply criticizing the state’s electricity services and calling for urgent corrective measures.

At the event held at the Congress Bhavan, former MLA and State Kisan Congress president Ashok Kumar Baidya and Block Congress president Atanu Pal highlighted the plight of consumers who, despite visiting electricity offices repeatedly, were unable to recharge their prepaid meters due to server failures. As a result, many families were left without electricity for days, enduring extreme heat and facing disruption in essential daily activities such as drinking water collection, mobile charging, students’ studies, and small businesses.

The leaders alleged that the crisis had escalated to such an extent that ordinary citizens were compelled to stage protests and even block the National Highway on Monday, demanding restoration of services. They accused the administration of failing to act swiftly, saying timely intervention could have prevented the unrest.

The press meet was also attended by District Congress vice-president Biswajit Chanda, Unorganized Workers’ Block Chairman Mintu Deb, and senior Congress member Rajdhan Sarkar. Together, they reiterated that uninterrupted electricity supply is a basic necessity, not a luxury, and urged the government to take immediate steps to ensure stability in the prepaid recharge system.

Congress leaders reminded that on June 10, the Teliamura Block Congress had already submitted a 10-point deputation to the local electricity office, demanding permanent solutions to server failures and uninterrupted services. However, even after a month, no action has been taken, leaving consumers in distress.

The leadership stressed that the government must establish alternative arrangements to prevent such crises in the future.
