Congress pays tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on death anniv

Agartala May 21: Tripura Pradesh Congress on Sunday celebrated the 33rd death anniversary of late former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi with due dignity across the state.
The prime program was held at TPCC headquarters in Post Office Chowmani area of the capital city in presence of senior party leaders.
Besides hoisting the party flag and paying floral tributes to the portrait of the late former prime minister, the Congress leaders also paid tributes to the stalwart at Shaheed Bedi in Gandhighat.
Speaking on the occasion, former TPCC president and senior congress leader Gopal Roy said, “Congress observes the death anniversary of the former prime minister and political stalwart as ‘Sanhati Diwas’ whose contribution towards the nation is beyond measures”.
His contributions such as lowering of voting age, strengthening Panchayati Raj, Telecom and IT Revolution transformed India, propelling it in 21st century, he added.
A blood donation camp was also organized to mark the occasion where activists and supporters of Congress voluntarily donated blood.
Rajiv Gandhi was India’s prime minister between 1984 and 1989 and died after he was assassinated by LTTE terrorists at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu in the year 1991 during an election campaign.
