The Tripura Pradesh Congress and Youth Congress on Monday launched a scathing attack on the state government, highlighting what they termed a “grim reality” of education and employment in the state.Â
Â
At a press conference held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan on Monday, party leaders drew attention to the NITI Aayog 2026 report, which they said exposes alarming levels of school dropouts, poor infrastructure and rising unemployment.
Â
Congress spokesperson Partha Acharya accused the government of betraying the youth and students. He alleged that promises made under the Vidyajyoti scheme have not been fulfilled, while fees continue to be collected in violation of the Right to Education Act, 2009. “Education is being pushed out of reach for the poor. Dropouts are rising, teachers are not being recruited, and the so-called education hub is nothing but a move towards privatization,” Acharya said.
Â
He also condemned the recurring exam paper leaks and digital glitches in national-level tests such as NEET, SSC-GD, CUET, UPSC, and CBSE, calling for strict accountability and exemplary punishment for those responsible. “The future of millions of students is being destroyed. This must stop immediately,” he asserted.
Â
Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha focused on the worsening unemployment crisis. He pointed out that Tripura’s contribution to India’s apprenticeship programmes is less than 0.1%, reflecting the absence of industry and job creation in the state. “Factories never came, promises were made, votes were taken, but the youth got nothing. Government jobs remain the only hope, yet even teacher vacancies are not being filled,” Saha said.
Â
He noted that nearly 15,000 teachers retired in the past 7–8 years, but vacancies remain unaddressed. Despite thousands of candidates qualifying in TET exams, recruitment has stalled. “Two thousand qualified youth are waiting for appointment letters. The government keeps saying recruitment is a continuous process, but the reality is two years of silence,” he added.
Â
The Congress leaders warned that unless immediate steps are taken to stop fee collection in Vidyajyoti schools, fill vacant teaching posts, and address unemployment, Tripura risks sinking deeper into educational and economic backwardness. They appealed to the people, especially the youth, to rise against what they described as “false promises and failed governance.”
