Content creator arrested in Agartala on rape charge

A content creator and mobile shop owner was arrested by Amtali police in Agartala on the charges of rape.

The youth allegedly raped a girl after luring her with the promise of gifting an expensive iPhone.
According to police sources, the accused was arrested late Saturday night. The accused- Aditya Das is reportedly known locally as a social media content creator and also owns two mobile phone shops in Agartala.

The victim alleged that she came into contact with the accused through Facebook a few months ago. Their online interaction gradually developed into regular conversations. Taking advantage of the acquaintance, the accused allegedly proposed meeting her and promised to gift her a costly iPhone.

As per the complaint, the woman arrived in Agartala by train on Saturday morning to purchase medicines. When she reached Badharghat Railway Station, the accused allegedly arrived on a motorcycle and met her there. Though he initially told her they would go elsewhere, he later allegedly took her to a three-storey hotel near the railway station.

The complainant alleged that she was forcibly raped inside the hotel room. She further claimed that when she resisted, the accused physically assaulted her. 

According to the complaint, Aditya Das also allegedly kept her mobile phone with him while leaving the hotel and later threatened her with dire consequences before fleeing the scene.

After escaping from the hotel, the victim approached the West Agartala Women Police Station and lodged a written complaint against the accused.

Acting swiftly on the complaint, a police team led by Inspector Shiuli Das, Officer-in-Charge of the West Agartala Women Police Station, conducted a raid at the accused’s mobile phone shop near Laxminarayan Bari in Agartala on Saturday night. Aditya Das was detained from the shop and later handed over to Amtali Police Station.

Police said the accused is a resident of Kamalpur area and currently lives at Gangail Road in Agartala. He reportedly owns two mobile phone stores at Siddhi Ashram and near Laxminarayan Bari. Police sources also stated that the accused is married and has children.

A case has been registered at Amtali Police Station under Sections 65(1) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Amtali Officer-in-Charge Inspector Paritosh Das said the accused was formally arrested around 2 am and was produced before the court later in the day.
