A minor student was allegedly subjected to corporal punishment at a madrasa in Unakoti district’s Kailashahar, prompting his father to lodge a written complaint against the institution’s ‘Chhoto Huzur’ at Kailashahar police station.
The incident was reported from Phulbarikandi Hafizia Madrasa in Barkhala village under Phulbarikandi panchayat of Gournagar RD Block.
According to the complaint filed by the boy’s father, Manaf Ali, the minor was allegedly beaten after he failed to answer a question during his studies. The family claimed that the assault left injury marks on his hands and legs.
The family further alleged that the boy had been subjected to corporal punishment at the madrasa for a long time.
After learning about the assault, Ali went to the madrasa and sought an explanation for the treatment of his son.
The family claimed that the madrasa authorities initially assured them that the matter would be resolved through discussion, but no settlement was reached.
Ali subsequently lodged a written complaint at Kailashahar police station at around 10 pm on Sunday.
Speaking to the media, Ali said disciplining a student for failing to answer a question was one thing, but physically assaulting a minor in the name of education could not be accepted. He demanded an investigation and legal action against those responsible.
Meanwhile, allegations have also surfaced that various individuals were being pressured to remove photographs and posts related to the incident from social media. These allegations could not be independently verified.
The allegations have raised concerns over the safety of minor students at the institution. The family has sought an impartial investigation into the incident and appropriate action if the allegations are established.
It has been learnt that both the teachers of this Madrasa originally hail from Assam.
The madrasa’s ‘Chhoto Huzur’ and the authorities could not be reached for their response till the time of filing this report.
The allegations and the circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to become clear after the police investigation.
