Agartala Jan 27: In a major jolt to the Opposition camp and boost to the ruling BJP with barely few days left for crucial Tripura Polls, sitting CPI-M MLA Moboswar Ali and former Tripura TMC president Subal Bhowmik joined the BJP in the national capital here on Friday.
Tripura chief minister Dr Manik Saha, State BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee welcomed the leaders adding that their joining boosted party’s strength.
Claiming that the BJP will certainly form government in Tripura for yet another term, chief minister Dr Manik Saha said, “With the assembly elections on cards, the joining of these two leaders will strengthen the party. Owing to the BJP leadership both at the Centre and in the State, there is a lot of public support and trust in us. BJP will definitely form the Government in Tripura once again”.
Subal Bhowmik in his statement after joining the BJP said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tripura including the entire North-East has seen immense development and the Prime Minister has taken the region to International Forum”.
The work of 6 National Highways is underway in a small state like Tripura. Tripura has also got an international airport under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister, he said.
Bhowmik, who is infamous for changing parties every other time exuded confidence that the BJP will repeat its government in Tripura.
Speaking in this context, sitting CPI-M MLA Mobashwar Ali who also joined the BJP in Delhi on Friday said, “People of Tripura have been blessed with development in all sectors. Sitting at homes they are able to enjoy all facilities of both state and central government”.
“I feel blessed to be a part of this party from where I can add to the developmental pace”, he added.
BJP National Spokesperson and North East Co-ordinator Sambit Patra handed over the party membership papers to the new joinees.
According to highly placed sources in the party, Subal Bhowmik placed the demand of BJP ticket for Banamalipur assembly constituency while Mobaswar Ali sought approval for contesting from Kailasahar seat.
Contacting CPI-M State Secretary Jiten Choudhury over sudden decision by party’s sitting MLA Mobaswar Ali, he termed the incident to be “gross betrayal”.
“We are fighting in alliance with Congress for a cause and the cause of ‘uprooting the fascist BJP’ from power is given priority. In this situation, self-interests must be side-lined and the cause must be prioritized”, he added.
He added, the decision of leaving the Kailasahar seat for Congress was taken only after talking with Moboswar Ali.
