CPI-M State Secretary rules out Congress tie-up, Confirms CPI(ML) alliance for VC Polls

As the village committee elections draw closer, Tripura’s political landscape is heating up with parties declaring their strategies and alliances. 

In a significant statement, CPI(M) State Secretary has confirmed that the party will contest the upcoming polls in alliance with CPI(ML) under the Left Front, while ruling out any electoral understanding with the Congress.

The CPI(M) leader emphasized that coordination among Left parties is being prioritized to strengthen their collective fight in the grassroots elections. He noted that the Left Front’s campaign will focus on the rights, development, and everyday problems faced by people in the hill areas, making these issues central to their electoral battle.

On the question of Congress, the CPI(M) State Secretary categorically stated that no discussions have taken place regarding seat-sharing or alliance with the party. He further questioned Congress’s organizational strength in the hills, arguing that the party lacks a strong base in tribal regions, and therefore does not figure into the Left Front’s electoral equation for the village committee polls.

The CPI(M)’s stance signals a clear strategy of consolidating Left unity while distancing itself from Congress. The decision also reflects the Left Front’s intent to present a united opposition against the ruling BJP and other regional forces, while keeping the focus firmly on tribal welfare and governance issues.
