The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has entered a phase of critical self-examination, holding its state committee meeting in Agartala on Wednesday to review its performance in the recently concluded Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections and the Dharmanagar Assembly bypoll. The gathering also marked the beginning of preparations for the upcoming village council elections, which the party views as a crucial test of its grassroots strength.
Â
Leader of Opposition and CPIM State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, addressing reporters after the meeting, admitted that the party’s recent electoral results were unsatisfactory. He stressed that CPIM has a tradition of conducting detailed reviews after every election, regardless of outcome, and this time the focus would be on identifying shortcomings in organizational strategy, political messaging, and campaign execution.
Â
“We need to understand where we failed and what strategies our opponents used to secure victory. Those issues must be brought before the people,” Chaudhury said, adding that the exercise was not merely about numbers but about rebuilding confidence among workers and supporters.
Â
The meeting reportedly involved in-depth discussions on factional coordination, cadre mobilization, and communication gaps that may have weakened the party’s outreach. Senior leaders emphasized the need to sharpen ideological clarity while simultaneously adapting to the changing political landscape in Tripura, where rival parties have made significant inroads.
Â
Looking ahead, Chaudhury highlighted the village council elections as a key battleground for CPIM. He said the party would intensify its grassroots engagement, strengthen local committees, and ensure that workers are better equipped to connect with voters on issues of livelihood, governance, and social welfare.
