Agartala Feb 03: The Left-Congress alliance has marked a tectonic shift in the political atmosphere of poll-bound Tripura as both the parties were known as rivals till they announced 'unity for greater cause'.
Having agreed to seat-sharing agreements between both the earlier rivals, Friday, both Left and Congress activists and supporters carried out campaigns in favour of Congress candidate Asish Kumar Saha in 8-Town assembly constituency area.
Former MLA Asish Kumar Saha won from the Town Bordowali seat in 2018 assembly elections on a BJP ticket and later resigned from the post of MLA and also severed ties with BJP and joined the Congress.
Contesting from the same seat on a Congress ticket this time, Asish Kumar Saha said, “Left Front and Congress have united with an open mind to fulfill the aspirations of common people and defeat the BJP that has destroyed the constitutional order in the state for past five years”.
It was high time to make a joint appeal to the state electorate and resist “fascist forces” and ensure BJPs ouster from power, he said.
Talking to the reporters, Saha added, “Since the Saffron party assumed power, a disorder was unleashed in the state. Democratic rights of people have been abducted and Constitution paralyzed. Besides, the voice of opposition political parties had been stifled”.
“Considering the elections that were turned into a farcical exercise with the BJP government in power, people are yet in fear if they can exercise their democratic rights”, he added.
Saha urged the peace-loving citizens of Tripura to come under the banner of ‘unity’ and vote for the Left-Congress candidates to ensure that rule of law is established in the state.
