Agartala Feb 02: With the end of deadline for withdrawal of nominations, Thursday, both CPIM and Congress have withdrawn candidates according to pre-decided seat-sharing agreement.
A clear struggle between the much hyped ‘understanding’ between long time rivals was seen in recent days after CPIM filed nominations in all 60-assembly seats and Congress in extra 3 seats, more than what agreed in sharing.
Soon after the announcement of alliance, both CPIM and Congress mutually agreed on seat sharing as Left Front-47 and Congress-13.
But later, the Congress declared candidate list for 17 assembly constituencies that created all the ‘fuss’.
However, among 13 seats, the Majlishpur Congress candidate did not submit nomination.
Meanwhile, resented with the situation, CPIM also put up candidates in all the rest 13 assembly seats on Monday including Shankar Prasad Dutta against Sudip Roy Barman in 6-Agartala seat.
Later, both the parties decided to resolve the issue and unite with severe will and sincerity keeping aside the issue of ‘Power’ for the greater cause, that is to ‘defeat BJP’.
With the withdrawal of nominations allowed till Thursday, the CPIM has pulled out candidates from 13 seats left originally for the Congress and also swapped a seat between them.
CPIM agreed to give the Pabiacherra SC Reserved seat to Congress instead of Pecharthal constituency that was allotted earlier.
In a statement from the Tripura Pradesh Congress president Brijit Sinha issued on Thursday mentioned that, “Congress has withdrawn candidate from 3 extra seats and CPIM from 13 seats”.
“To uproot the BJP-IPFT coalition government, restore democracy and establish rule of law in state, both Congress and the Left Front have honoured the seat sharing agreement with dignity”, Sinha mentioned in his statement.
He also appealed the common people to forget the dilemmas and support the united fight against BJP to bring back peace in the state.
