Agartala Jan 31: In a major turn of events, CPIM State Secretary Jiten Choudhury on behalf of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Tripura State Committee demanded immediate disqualification of nomination of Md. Mabashwar Ali who submitted nomination papers from 53-Kailasahar assembly constituency as a BJP candidate.
In a letter addressed to the Returning Officer for 53-Kailasahar assembly seat, Jiten Choudhury mentioned that Md Mabashwar Ali was elected to Tripura Legislative Assembly from 53-Kailasahar constituency as a CPI-M Candidate in the year 2018 and is still a sitting member of the State Legislative assembly as well as a CPI-M party member.
Choudhury further added, “Being a member of the Tripura Legislative Assembly sponsored by the CPI-M, unless he resigns from the Assembly, or he is expelled by the party he may not be accepted as a member of any other party or an independent candidate. Hence, Mr. Ali, a member of CPI-M as a sitting MLA in the Assembly simultaneously may not be a Member of BJP as stated in his nomination filed before you”.
The state secretary of CPI-M further cited that in Para 3 of from ‘B’ of Symbol allotment there is a statutory declaration of the authorized signatory of the party symbol certifying that, “the candidate whose name is mentioned above is a member of this political party and his name is duly borne on the rolls of members of this party”, he wrote in his letter.
Demanding immediate cancellation of Md Mabashwar Ali’s nomination Jiten asserted that in no circumstances, Md. Ali can be treated as BJP candidate as he did not resign from the State Assembly or from CPI-M party membership.
Notably, two days after the CPI-M dropped MLA Mabashwar Ali from party’s candidate list, he joined the BJP in national capital and later filed nominations on a BJP ticket for 53-Kailasahar assembly seat on Monday last.
