Tripura Leader of Opposition and CPIM Politburo member Jitendra Chaudhury on Thursday said that Left Front would contest the ensuing Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections with full strength and it would field candidates in all the 28 constituencies.
“We will definitely contest the elections with full strength and the candidates will be fielded in all the 28 seats. Success and defeats are part of politics but every election brings the opportunity to reconnect with masses and most importantly it acts as a platform to educate a larger population about the present political establishment and its implications on their daily lives,” he said.
Speaking to reporters at the CPIM state headquarters, he expressed apprehensions over the polls being free and fair and said, “The Village Committee elections are long overdue. The state government was intentionally avoiding the polls but in the case of TTAADC constitutional obligations are there. The entire poll process is needed to be wrapped up by April 10, 2026. But, whether the polls will be free and fair, I am not in the position to say right now.”
On being asked about the on-going tension between ruling allies, Tipra Moth and BJP, the CPIM leader said, “The strains as we can see between Tipra Motha and BJP are artificial in nature. They are fighting each other to divert the public's attention. If Tipra Motha is genuinely upset with the BJP and wants to fight it politically, it must walk away from the alliance. Both the parties are acting like actors of a drama company who play their characters of antagonists and protagonists in the stage and when the drama is over they indulge in recreational activities together in the green room.”
