Crime Branch breakthrough: Arms kingpin arrested from Bihar

The Crime Branch sleuths from Tripura have arrested a kingpin of arms dealing network from Bihar’s Bhagalpur while investigating two separate arms seizure cases near Agartala Railway Station. 

The accused person has been identified as Subham Kumar Sharma. He had been reportedly acting as the linkman of all the illegal arms being shipped to Tripura through various transit points, especially, through the railways. 

The police earlier arrested Subrata Datta and Prasenjit Das and recovered factory made firearms from their possession. Considering the gravity of the case, the investigation was transferred to the Crime Branch unit. 

As the investigation proceeded further, the Crime Branch officials came to know that the arms were being transported from Bihar’s Bhagalpur. A special team of the crime branch left for Bihar accordingly for further investigation. 

Based on the intelligence inputs and confessions of the arrested accused persons, police arrested Subham Kumar Sharma from Bhagalpur. He was, reportedly, handling all the operations pertaining to procurement and shipment of pistols from Bihar. 

After arrest, Sharma was brought to Agartala on Saturday on transit remand. On production in the local court, he was remanded for five days in the police custody. Further probe is underway, sources said.
