Cycle rally on voters’ awareness held in Agartala

Agartala, Nov 09: As part of the initiatives to raise awareness among the voters, Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura organized a Cycle Rally with the theme- Pedal For Participative Elections.
The cycle rally organized in connection with publication of draft electoral rolls registered a good response in Agartala.
Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte flagged-off the rally in presence of District Magistrate, West Tripura- Debapriya Bardhan and others.
Members of Agartala cycloholics Foundation, a cycling community, along with school students and defence personnel joined the rally with huge enthusiasm. The rally saw participation of people from all age groups.
The rally started from Umakanta stadium and traversed through various roads in the city covering around 14 kms.
According to bicycle mayor, BYCS- Gopesh Debnath, currently road traffic accidents, mainly involving youngsters in fast-moving motor vehicles, are on the rise, pollution levels from motor vehicles are rising, leading to an increase in cardiovascular diseases and people are spending long hours in traffic signals. But, the political parties and politicians don’t talk about these issues.
He feels, there is a need to know about candidates who are genuinely cycling and environment friendly as they can push for a cycling-friendly city.
He added, “It is time for politicians to talk about developing cycling infrastructure when they talk about various developmental issues.”
