Cyclone Sitrang damage crops in Kalyanpur, Gandacherra

Kalyanpur/Gandacherra: Though the cyclone Sitrang caused only minimal damage in Tripura despite red and yellow alerts having been issued in view of cyclone-related thunderstorms, the cyclone had its influence in some parts of the state to cause damage to the agricultural crops especially in Kalyanpur and Gandacherra.
According to the report, the cyclone Sitrang led the hands of farmers of Kalyanpur up on their brow after their paddy fields and seasonal vegetables were damaged. Kunjban, East Kalyanpur, West Ghilatli, Ghilatli, South Ghilatli, Kamalnagar etc were the most affected areas in Kalyanpur.
Sector Officer of the concerned agriculture department Kaushik Saha informed that a total of 47 hectares of paddy filed were damaged due to the cyclone Sitrang while a total of 14 hectares of vegetable farming fields were damaged. A total of 1100 farmers involved with the faming were affected.
On the other hand, paddy fields in Lakhipur village area of Gandacherra sub-division were also affected due to the cyclone Sitrang on October 24. The BJP Raima Valley Mandal President Dorbacha Chakma inspected the affected agricultural fields and took stock of the situation from the affected farmers on Wednesday.
The BJP leader however assured the affected farmers of all possible aid from the government and said that government is committed to stand by the farmers of the state for their welfare.
