Agartala Feb 11: If peaceful elections are held in Tripura and common people are allowed to exercise their voting rights, BJP will never be able to return to power, said West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Choudhury.
The Leader of Lok Sabha, Congress party made the statement as he addressed the press at Tripura Pradesh Congress Bhavan in Agartala here on Saturday.
Lashing out the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over ‘pre-poll violence’ across Tripura, Choudhury said, “Violence across the state backed by the ruling BJP proves that it did nothing for the people of Tripura and slogans of ‘development’ have remained untouched”.
Talking about the Election Commission’s promise of ‘Zero-Violence’ Polls, Adhir Ranjan Choudhury said, “It is saddening that even after ECIs claims of violence free polls, every other day incidents of violence are reported across Tripura and BJP backed miscreants are conducting such crimes”.
Adding that it is the responsibility of Election Commission to ensure that polls are conducted in a ‘free-fair and violence-free atmosphere’ in Tripura, Choudhury strongly criticized the attack on Congress candidate Ashok Debbarma in Charilam on Saturday.
He also said, “4 more Congress workers were attacked in Surjyamani Nagar assembly area on the same day”.
The West Bengal Congress leader also slammed the Modi led BJP government over its claims on ‘Double-engine Govt and its benefits’.
“Whatever the Central government has done after 2014 is merely continuation of the Congress led UPA government. Even to build up Modi’s Gujarat Model, the Congress led UPA government in the Centre gave all necessary support”, he said.
“The Modi-led government when came to power brought several anti-people policies that have added to the devastation of people, especially the poor”, he added.
Choudhury further listed the unfulfilled promises of BJPs ‘Vision Document-2018’, record of ‘Crime against women including several gang rapes and murders’, and many more.
Talking about the Trinamool Congress, the West Bengal Congress president said, “Didi and Modi have no major difference”.
“TMC is here just to favour the BJPs vote bank and strengthen the hands of BJP”, he said.
The Congress leader urged voters to support the Left-Congress alliance and vote for the candidates to ensure that BJP is ousted from power in Tripura.
