Agartala Oct 18: Pradyut Kishore Dev Varman led TIPRA Motha, has announced to stage statewide agitation on October 19 protesting against the state election commission’s decision to publish the final electoral roll in the month of January, 2023.
Notably, in a statement issued by the state election commission of October 15 mentioned that the draft electoral roll for Village Committee elections had been published on September 16 last and the final rolls was scheduled to be published within September 30. But a judgment of the Tripura High Court mentioning the inclusion of displaced Reang refugees in the electoral rolls has now made the commission to publish the final rolls in January, 2023.
Protesting against such delay and “no intention” strategy of the state election commission on holding the village committee elections, TIPRA Motha workers and supporters are going to hold protest demonstrations on October 19 across the state.
In an exclusive telephonic conversation with Tripura Times, TIPRA Motha Chairman Pradyut Kishore Dev Varma said, “From March 7 last year the state election commission or the state government has been deferring the elections to the Village Committees on one pretext or another. During this period several elections have been held but the government has dragged its feet over holding the Village Committee polls”.
He added, whatever the BJP may do regarding Village Committee polls, they will not be able to perform well in the upcoming assembly elections in the ADC areas.
Pradyut further asserted that the TIPRA Motha will win all the seats in the ADC.
