Denied permission for sit in, Khet Mazdoor Union holds convention

Agartala Aug 01: The Khet Mazdoor Union, one of the 32 Left affiliate trade unions on Monday organized a hall convention at Agartala Town Hall after being denied permission to hold a sit-in demonstration in front of Agartala City Center.
Speaking to media persons, one of the leaders of the Khet Mazdoor Union said, “As a part of our national programme we are organizing these protests across 500 districts of India.
A sit in demonstration was supposed to be organized in front of Agartala City Center as part of the national protest programme putting forth a 28-point charter of demands. But, the police department did not give us permission hold the protests and thus we are organizing a hall convention at Agartala Town Hall”.
To a query regarding the key demands, he said, “Our main demands are 200 days guaranteed work in the MGNREGA scheme, the wages needs to be increased, pension worth Rs 5,000 for the workers of farming sector and housing for the construction workers”. Senior CPIM leaders like Shankar Prasad Datta and former Minister Bhanu Lal Saha remained present in the convention.
