Agartala Aug 02: Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma on Tuesday accused both the opposition parties CPIM and Congress equally for the violent clashes that broke out at Charilam on Monday.
Dev Varma said it was the goons sponsored by "Bamgres"--a joint front of the Left and the Congress who attacked the BJP workers of Charilam.
Condemning the attacks, Dev Varma also teared into Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman skipping to name him directly. "I strongly condemn the attack on our BJP karyakartas in Charilam by Bamgress goondas led by a political tourist who visited 4 political parties in 5 years - congress to Trinamool congress to BJP now in Bamgress ( fifty fifty congress- CPI (m) next party what??", he tweeted.
Dev Varma also wrote a detailed Facebook post later and said: "A gang of goons tried to hijack the rule of law. People of Tripura have rejected them for their allegiance to anti-social activities and goondaism. I strongly condemn the attack on BJP workers of Charilam".
It is worthy to be mentioned here that violent face offs between Congress and BJP workers sparked tension in the areas. The clashes Left workers of both the parties injured while three policemen deployed to control the situation also received injuries owing to stone pelting. Meanwhile, due to police lathi charge as well several BJP workers sustained injuries.
Peeved by the police high-handedness, the BJP workers staged a road blockade that was lifted after Deputy Chief Minister who is also the local MLA from Charilam intervened.
