With the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections and the Dharmanagar Assembly by-election drawing closer, administrative and security preparedness has intensified across Tripura to ensure strict law and order during the poll period.
Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar visited North Tripura district on Sunday to review the security arrangements.Â
He arrived in Dharmanagar around 11 am by the Kanchanjungha Express and proceeded directly to the office of the Superintendent of Police, North Tripura.
A high-level meeting was held at the SP office with senior police and administrative officials of both North Tripura and Unakoti districts.
The meeting was attended by North Tripura District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, North Tripura SP Abhinash Rai, Unakoti SP Sudhambika R, along with senior officials of TSR and other police departments.
According to sources, the DGP directed officials to deploy additional security forces in sensitive booths, strengthen surveillance in border areas, and take strict measures to prevent infiltration.
It may be noted that Dhankar has been conducting similar security review meetings across different districts over the past few days. Earlier, he held meetings in Khowai and Dhalai districts as well.
After the meeting, speaking to reporters, the DGP stated that central forces have not yet been deployed for the ADC elections, but a request for deployment has already been submitted.Â
He assured that the state has sufficient police and security personnel available for the Dharmanagar by-election.
Administrative sources believe that the DGP’s district visit sends a clear message that the Tripura Police is fully prepared to ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections in the state.
