Divyang woman donates blood: CM Manik Saha calls it 'moment of pride for Tripura'

A blood donation camp at Ramakrishna Club, Ramnagar turned into a moment of inspiration on Wednesday when a physically challenged woman, Sanhita Das, came forward to donate blood, drawing praise from Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, who described the act as a matter of pride for the entire state.

The Chief Minister, inaugurating the camp, personally interacted with donors and lauded the courage of the woman, saying her participation symbolized the spirit of humanity and inclusiveness that defines Tripura’s blood donation movement. “There is no substitute for blood. Donating blood saves lives, and it also benefits the donor physically and mentally. Today’s example shows how deeply this movement has touched society,” Dr. Saha remarked.

He highlighted that Tripura has emerged as a leader among Indian states in voluntary blood donation, with reserves in blood banks exceeding the required 40,000 units. The CM noted that modern facilities such as blood component separation units and adequate blood banks have now been established across hospitals, strengthening healthcare infrastructure.

Dr. Saha also praised the role of clubs and social organizations, which have increasingly embraced community service, including blood donation drives. He pointed out that many of these initiatives are now being led by women, reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on women’s empowerment as a cornerstone of national progress.

Agartala Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, present at the event, said blood donation has become a festival-like celebration in Tripura, aimed at eliminating shortages and saving lives.

Other dignitaries, including Ramakrishna Club leaders and community representatives, joined the program, which saw enthusiastic participation from donors.

The Chief Minister’s praise for the specially-abled donor has resonated widely, reinforcing the message that blood donation is not only a medical necessity but also a collective act of compassion and social responsibility.
