
In joint operation Assam Rifles and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, seized gold biscuits and unaccounted cash during a search operation carried out in the Shantipara and Dhaleshwar areas of Agartala in Tripura, a press statement said.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the security forces recovered gold biscuits weighing around 14 kg, valued at approximately Rs 19 crore, along with Indian currency amounting to Rs 2.87 crore.
The seizure was made during a targeted operation aimed at curbing illegal activities related to smuggling and unaccounted wealth, the officials said.
According to sources, the operation was executed with precision following sustained surveillance and intelligence-sharing between Assam Rifles and the DRI.
The recovered gold and cash were subsequently handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation and initiation of legal proceedings under the relevant provisions of law.
Officials said the seizure is being seen as a major success in the ongoing efforts to check organised smuggling networks operating in the state. Investigations are underway to ascertain the source of the seized gold and currency and to identify individuals or syndicates involved in the illegal racket.
