Agartala Nov 15: Local women of Durganagar area under Goldharpur village panchayat placed deputation to the panchayat chief demanding immediate solution to the water crisis issue.
The locals alleged heavy scarcity of water for long days.
They added, “Despite of informing the Panchayat authorities and local leaders nothing is done to solve the problem”.
About 25 families of Durganagar area are completely deprived of clean drinking water. Even if one to two buckets of water reaches the area at the end of the day, it is unfit for consumption.
Residents of Durganagar area are forced to collect drinking water from far away.
The local women further alleged that the panchayat authorities gave them assurances but did no work in reality.
Meanwhile, Heera Sinha, head of the Gram Panchayat admitted the allegations. She said there are some problems not only in Ward No 1 area of Goldharpur Gram Panchayat, but in the entire Goldharpur Gram Panchayat area.
Some unscrupulous citizens are illegally stealing water by attaching motors to drinking water connections. As a result, the water does not reach properly due to reduced water pressure from the drinking water supply point.
When the present Unakoti District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar was in charge as the Kailashar District Magistrate, he visited the concerned area and at the same time raids were conducted at several places. The authorities also seized illegal water connections and motors.
However, after a few days, this problem arose again.
Panchayat Chief Heera Sinha also said that a deep tubewell has been installed in the concerned Ward No. 1 area. But due to some complications related to the place, the pipeline could not be installed.
Within a few days, the problem will be resolved and a new pipeline will be installed to supply water, she added.
The locals demanded an immediate solution to the water crisis issue.
