Several families from West Kanchanmala area under Golaghati assembly constituency are facing irregular drinking water supply despite the installation of a pump under the Jal Jeevan Mission, locals said on Saturday.
The problem has been reported from the area near West Kanchanmala SB School, where a drinking water pump was installed a few years ago under the central government scheme to ensure tap water supply to every household. Villagers said the pump is operational and some households are receiving water, but many others continue to face shortages.
Affected villagers alleged that substandard pipelines were laid during the implementation of the project, resulting in frequent leakages due to low pressure and causing disruption in supply to several households. They said water often seeps out from damaged sections of the pipeline, preventing adequate distribution.
Locals claimed they had informed officials of the Drinking Water and Sanitation department about the issue, but no remedial action has been taken so far. They further alleged that funds were sanctioned for providing water connections to all households, but irregularities during execution have left many families without access to drinking water.
As a result, villagers are forced to collect water from other locations despite the pump being operated regularly, they said.
On Saturday morning, locals approached the media persons to highlight their grievances and urged the government and the concerned department to intervene at the earliest to restore proper water supply in the area.
