Tripura witnessed the grand celebration of Durga Puja this year with an outpouring of devotion, vibrant traditions, dazzling illuminations, and enthusiastic pandal hopping.
There was no report of any untoward incident from any corner of the state. Despite spells of light rainfall during the festival, the people’s spirit was high.Â
From heritage rituals to theme-based creativity, the festival turned into a blend of spirituality and cultural splendour across the state from September 30 (Maha Saptami) to October 02 (Bijoya Dashami).
The festive spirit was in the air since Tritiya night with inauguration of major puja pandals by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.Â
In Agartala, several major clubs and puja committees showcased impressive themes and decorations. Among them were Yuva Samaj (Joynagar), Netaji Play Forum (Centre), Pole Star Club (Astabal Maidan), Aikatan Yuva Sanstha (Santipara), Lal Bahadur Club, Agiye Cholo Sangha, Deshbandhu Chittaranjan, Shatadal Sangha, Flowers Club, Chatrabandhu Club, Santikami Sangha (Buddhamandir), Bharat Ratna Sangha (Ushabazar), Central Road Yuva Sanstha, Kunjaban Sporting Union and Sanhati Club.
Many of the pandals featured temple replicas and patriotic themes, including ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Adding to the festive charm, musical concerts and cultural performances were organized by different puja committees, offering entertainment to thousands of pandal hoppers.Â
Traditional puja delicacies — from khichuri and bhog to sweets and street foods — added additional flavour to the celebrations.
This year, nearly 3,000 community pujas were organized across the state — a 10 percent increase from last year’s 2,750. West Tripura district hosted the highest number with 772 pujas, followed by Khowai (397), Sepahijala (377), Gomati (352), Dhalai (317), South (268), North (262), and Unakoti (220).
To ensure smooth celebrations, elaborate security arrangements were in place. A total of 6,550 Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel, 380 civil police officers, and 920 police recruits were deployed, apart from regular district police forces. Women police personnel were also stationed at key points for crowd management and safety.
As the celebrations nearing conclusion, excitement now builds for Mayer Gomon— the grand puja carnival to be held on October 4. The carnival will showcase Tripura’s rich cultural traditions, marking a colourful farewell to Goddess Durga.
