A blood donation camp was organised by Nikhil Tripura Mahanam Sebak Sangha at Mahanam Angan in Banamalipur, Agartala, on Monday to mark the anniversary of the institution.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha attended the programme. Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, office-bearers of Mahanam Angan, ashram volunteers and other dignitaries were also present.
Speaking at the programme, Dr Saha said younger generations should be encouraged to engage with religious and spiritual practices to understand the purpose of life and distinguish between right and wrong.
“Sanatan Dharma teaches us values of purposeful life, honesty, kindness and tolerance. This organisation (Mahanambrata Ashram) has been working in this line for a long time,” Dr Saha said.
He said the blood donation camp had brought people from different places together under one roof.
“People generally remain busy in their own lives. Through this blood donation camp, people from different places have come here,” he said.
Dr Saha also spoke about the continuity of Indian civilisation and attributed its survival to the principles and ethos of Sanatan Dharma.
“Many ancient civilisations that emerged as centres of culture and trade have diminished and can now only be found in museums. But Indian civilization, despite witnessing a series of invasions and attacks, survived and is still alive,” he said.
He said the government had its own responsibilities, while religious and spiritual institutions also had a role in keeping society united, integrated and inclusive.
“Life is full of challenges. In the face of challenges, humans should have the mental mettle and courage, and these institutions play a crucial role in making mentally strong individuals,” Dr Saha said.
The organisers said social welfare programmes were undertaken from time to time alongside religious and spiritual activities. The blood donation camp was organised as part of their social responsibility, they said.
The programme also highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation and encouraged people to come forward to help address shortages of blood, according to the organisers.
Mayor Dipak Majumder was also present at the event.
