Director General of Tripura Police Anurag on Thursday reviewed the security situation in Khowai and Dhalai districts ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections and said elaborate arrangements had been put in place to ensure peaceful polling.
The review meeting was held at the office of the Superintendent of Police in Khowai and was attended by the SPs of Khowai and Dhalai districts as well as commandants of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) battalions.
Officials discussed the prevailing law and order situation and finalised a plan for security deployment for the remaining days leading up to the polls.
“The elections are scheduled on April 12. In view of the elections, elaborate security arrangements have been made for maintenance of law and order,” the DGP said.
He said the police were assessing the preparedness on the ground and would take further measures if required to ensure that the entire electoral process remains peaceful.
“We will review the whole security arrangement and decide what actions should be taken so that the entire poll process remains peaceful — pre-poll, during poll and post-poll,” he said.
The DGP said adequate personnel had already been deployed in both districts and that the situation was being monitored on a regular basis.
“Sufficient officers and forces have been provided to both the districts. I am reviewing the situation regularly. Today, I have arrived on the ground to assess how the machinery is functioning and if any further action is required, it will be taken,” he said.
He added that efforts were being made to ensure a conducive atmosphere for campaigning by all political parties.
“The pre-poll situation needs to be favourable for campaigning of all political parties. Candidates must get space for campaigning and should not face any hurdles while reaching out to voters,” he said.
The police, he said, would ensure that voters can exercise their franchise without fear, threat or intimidation on the day of polling.
The TTAADC elections are scheduled to be held on April 12 and the results of the polls to be declared on April 17.Â
