EPFO adds nearly 17 lakh new members in August

New Delhi, Oct 20: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has added 16.94 lakh new members in August this year registering a growth of 14.40 per cent in comparison to the same month of the last year.
The provisional payroll data of EPFO reflects that more than 9.87 lakh new members out of 16.94 lakh members have come under the social security cover of EPFO for the first time.
According to the data, more than 58.32 per cent are from the age group of 18 to 25 years. The data shows that enrollment of new female members has been 3.63 lakh in August this year.
Net membership of females in the organised workforce has increased by 22.60 per cent in August this year in comparison to the same month of the last year.
Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Gujarat and Delhi continue to remain in lead by adding approximately 11.25 lakh new members during August which is 66.44 per cent of the total new payroll addition across all age groups.
EPFO’s payroll is a part of the organized sector workforce for those establishments which are covered under the provisions of Employees’ Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952. It provides provident fund, pension benefits to the members on their retirement and family pension & insurance benefits to their families in case of untimely death of the member.
