Fire destroys thatched home in Kalyanpur's Ghilatali area

A rare sight in today’s times, a traditional thatched-roof house was reduced to ashes in a tragic fire incident on Sunday morning in the Abhicharan Master Para locality of South Ghilatali, Kalyanpur. The house belonged to Sarajit Das, a daily wage laborer who also engages in agricultural work.

According to local sources, the fire broke out while Sarajit and his wife were away working in the fields. Their daughter had been cooking on a traditional clay stove when the blaze is believed to have started due to accidental negligence. Before the fire department could arrive, the flames had already engulfed the modest home.

Neighbors rushed to contain the fire upon seeing the rising flames and alerted the fire services. However, the intensity of the blaze quickly consumed the kitchen and scattered household items across the area. On receiving the news, Sarajit and his wife returned from the fields, only to break down in tears at the sight of their destroyed home.
