Flight, train crisis postpones IPFT's sit-in in Delhi Jantar Mantar

The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), an ally of the ruling BJP in the Tripura government, which was supposed to join National Federation of New States’ sit in demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar ground on December 15 next to press for the demand of Tipraland (Separate state) and the passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill, 2019 has been postponed.

Addressing a press conference here at Agartala on Sunday, the IPFT vice president Pradip Debbarman said, “Due to the ongoing crisis of flight and train service, we had to postpone our sit in demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and reschedule it on February or March next year.”

“We targeted at least 100 participants from the state, but the figure of participants rose to 227. We shall arrange tickets for them and ease them to reach Delhi’s Jantar Mantar,” Debbarma told reporters.

The party will reiterate its long-standing demand for the elevation of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to the Tipra Territorial Council (TTC), in line with the recommendation of the Tripura Legislative Assembly’s Council of Ministers, through the passage of the 125th Constitutional Amendment.
