Agartala June 03: A delegation of left leaders under the banner of CITU Jirania Local Committee placed deputation to the West District Magistrate on the basis of 7-point demands here on Saturday.
The major demands include arrangement of adequate work for the working class people especially poor daily labourers so that they can eat two times meal.
Speaking in this context, Tapan Das, CITU Jirania Local Committee secretary said, “Not only in Jirania sub-division but across the state, people of working class especially the daily earners are facing acute crisis because of unavailability of work. They are not able to feed their family properly”.
“In this situation, the state government must ensure that employment opportunities are generated at the earliest and the working class people be engaged in the same”, he said.
Alleging that number of mandays under REGA and TUEP is extremely low, the delegation demanded, “Work days under MGN-REGA must be increased to 200 days in a year and Rs 600 wage per day”.
Das further added that after the declaration of Tripura assembly poll results, many poor working class families in JIrania area have been subjected to political violence.
Houses have been vandalized, burnt down, crops destroyed apart from physical assaults.
The CITU delegation demanded the state government to immediately look into these issues and extend a helping hand towards the affected people.
