Rev Fr Emmanuel Kallarackal, C.S.C., former principal of Holy Cross School and Holy Cross College, Agartala, passed away in Ireland on August 29, the Congregation of Holy Cross, Province of Northeast India, said in a statement.
The Congregation expressed sorrow over the death of Fr Emmanuel, describing him as an educator, leader and mentor who had made a significant contribution to education in Tripura.
Fr Emmanuel’s association with Holy Cross School, Agartala, began with his service as vice-principal from 1984 to 1987. He later served as principal of the school from 1997 to 2003.
In 2009, he became the founding principal of Holy Cross College, Agartala, and continued in the position until 2019.
The Congregation said his contribution extended beyond academic education and included mentoring students and teachers and helping young people develop their capabilities.
It said his work had influenced thousands of students and teachers and that his contribution would continue through the institutions and people associated with him.
“His legacy can be summed up in four simple but powerful words: He lit minds. He shaped hearts,” the Congregation said.
The Congregation said Tripura had lost an educator and leader who had contributed to the state’s educational development and believed in the potential of young people.
Arrangements are being made to bring Fr Emmanuel’s mortal remains to Agartala, it said. Further details regarding his funeral and final rites will be communicated later.
The Congregation said his contribution would continue to be remembered by generations of students who had received education and guidance during his years of service.
