Gomati district launches 'Dengue Day Fortnight' campaign

Marking the National Dengue Day, Gomati District today kicked off a ‘Dengue Day Fortnight Campaign’. Driven by this year’s official theme, "Community Participation Dengue control: check, clean and cover," healthcare institutions across the district rolled out intensive micro-action plans to sensitize the public and curb vector-borne diseases.

Health professionals, including ASHAs and frontline workers, spearheaded comprehensive ground operations stretching across Sub-Divisions, Blocks, and village-level hamlets. Ground-level highlights from the district-wide campaign, according to a press release.

At West Khupilong AAM, team members conducted house-to-house visits to drain stagnant water from household materials and open containers while educating families on dengue symptoms. Field activities also targeted high-risk zones, clearing collected rainwater from rubber-plantation collection cups. Rajkang hosted a community-wide prevention seminar drawing an active attendance of villagers.

Concurrently awareness programs were successfully executed at Karaiyamura, Debbari, Mailak, Thakchara and Sarbong. Karbook SDH also organized targeted sensitization sessions focusing on vector protection and the daily usage of mosquito nets.

Dr. Saumik Chakraborty, Gomati District Malaria Officer, said that our key focus of the field operations will be the draining of stagnant water from household items, discarded containers, and rubber-tapping cups on plantation trees. Residents are also being educated on the critical importance of observing a "Weekly Dry Day" to break the mosquito breeding cycle.
