Governor calls for youth participation to build TB-free state

Tripura Governor N Indrasena Reddy on Wednesday called upon the state's youth to work with greater commitment towards making Tripura and the country free of tuberculosis (TB), while urging every gram panchayat to strive to become TB-free.

Inaugurating a tuberculosis awareness workshop at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala as part of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the Governor said the fight against tuberculosis was not merely a medical challenge but also reflected the collective will, social solidarity and commitment to the welfare of every citizen.

The workshop was organised jointly by the Regional Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (RIPSAT), the Department of Health and Family Welfare, and the National Health Mission.

The Governor said the campaign aims to enhance the identification of TB patients, ensure early diagnosis and strengthen treatment facilities for workers engaged in high-risk occupations. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a TB-free India, he said the Tripura government was also committed to achieving the goal.

He said building a TB-free Tripura was a collective responsibility and urged public representatives, healthcare workers and citizens to actively contribute to the campaign.

During the programme, the Governor formally launched the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan mobile application. He also distributed nutritional food kits to tuberculosis patients and presented certificates to Nikshay Mitras.

NEEPCO, NEDFi and the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura were also felicitated during the programme.

Joint Director of the Department of Family Welfare and Disease Prevention and State TB Officer Nupur Debbarma spoke at the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Several people who had recovered from tuberculosis also shared their experiences.

Director of the Department of Health and Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Dr Anjan Das, NHM Joint Mission Director Jubilee Debbarma and RIPSAT officiating Principal Prof Dr Rishiraj Chhetri were present at the programme, according to an official release issued from Lok Bhavan.
