Govt committed to socio-economic uplift of street vendors: CM

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday said that the present government is working with a sincere approach to resolve the various problems faced by street vendors and ensure their socio-economic development.

Addressing beneficiaries and others at a benefit distribution programme under the PM SVANidhi scheme held at Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala, in the presence of Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the Chief Minister highlighted the positive role played by street vendors in maintaining financial discipline, adopting digital transactions, and moving towards self-reliance.

Dr. Saha said that out of total 19,727 loan applications received under the scheme so far, 9,578 applications have been approved and loans worth Rs 15.28 crore have been disbursed. 

He further stated that around 5,000 street vendors have already repaid their loans, reflecting the success and responsibility demonstrated by the beneficiaries.

The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to the Central Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending the duration of the PM SVANidhi scheme till March 31, 2030 and increased the loan sanction.

He said the extension would further strengthen the government's efforts to support street vendors and enhance their economic security and livelihood opportunities.

The benefit distribution programme was followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann Ki Baat. 

The Chief Minister, the Union Minister and several others listened to the 134th episode of the programme at Muktadhara auditorium, organized under booth no 11 of Bordowali Assembly Constituency.
