Agartala, Mar 19: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury on Sunday said the present state government is committed to strengthen the Public Distribution System (PDS) across the state.
Chowdhury held a thorough review of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department at Gurkhabasti office.
Special Secretary of the department Raval Hamendra Kumar, Director Nirmal Adhikary and other officials were present in the review meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Chowdhury asked the officials concerned to keep monitoring so that the PDS doesn't face any problem.
He said, the state government is contemplating a plan to supply edible oil through the PDS. He also said, initiatives would be taken to organize a state-level seminar for development of the Public Distribution System.
An official informed the meeting that a total of 2048 Fair Price Shops are there in the state. Among them, 290 are women managed by the women.
The number of families under the PDS in the state is 9,59,769. The number of ration card holders is 37,23,401. Among them, 3,55,439 are APL card holders and 4,92,485 are priority households. The number of Antodaya card holders is 1,89,046.
The official also informed the meeting that Antodaya ration cards were also issued to 2899 Bru families and Priority household ration cards were given to 1205 tea workers'families.
Several other important matters were discussed in the review meeting.
