Govt Eye Hospital set to come up in Agartala, CM lays foundation stone

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday laid the foundation stone for a proposed government eye hospital at the Capital Complex area in Agartala, marking a major step towards strengthening eye care services in Tripura.

The Chief Minister said the hospital, envisioned as a flagship project, will be housed in a modern G+4 building equipped with advanced facilities and is expected to be completed within two years. The hospital will function as part of the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC).

Expressing confidence in the project, Dr. Saha said the proposed 100-bed hospital is expected to emerge as one of the best eye care institutions in the Northeast. He also called upon all stakeholders to work towards transforming the facility into a Centre of Excellence in eye care.

The Chief Minister said the state government has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen the overall healthcare system through the use of technology. In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the government has also placed emphasis on expanding digital health services.

He said, ABHA cards have already been generated for around 80 per cent of the state’s population, placing Tripura in a notable position nationally in this regard.

Highlighting various initiatives undertaken to provide quality healthcare, Dr. Saha said efforts are also underway to strengthen hospitals at the district and sub-divisional levels.

Addressing the issue of rainwater entering the trauma centre at GBP Hospital, the Chief Minister alleged that the building had been constructed without proper planning during the previous government’s tenure. He criticised the Opposition for raising the issue now and alleged that attempts were being made to mislead the younger generation on various matters.

Mayor Dipak Majumder, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte and senior officials and representatives of the department were present at the programme.
