Govt looks set to establish Street Food Hub in Agartala

Agartala, April 12: Aiming to ensure hygienic and quality street food served to the people of the capital town of Agartala, the Tripura government looks set to establish a clean street food hub, said District Magistrate of West Tripura district Debapriya Bardhan on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference here in the conference hall of DM office on Wednesday, the DM said, “In the first phased we opted the location in fornt of Agartala City Centre for declaring it as clean street food hub, where the existing street food vendors were imparted training time to time after a proper gap assessment. Based on the reports we looks set to announce clean street food hub.”
“As part of our drive towards food sfety, as of now we have inspected at least 26 establishments of restaurants and sweet shops here at Agartala to oversee their process of making or preparing food. We found some shortcomings during our inspection and accordingly we made them aware of the measures to be taken,” he told reporters, adding that the surveillance will be continued in wake of the upcoming festivals in the state.
He said, “Our motive is to ensure safety standards by the food manufacturers. As part of this we are to continue our food safety drive.”
On the other hand, the designated surveillance officer of the food safety Sangita Chakraborty said that the clean street food hub concept mandates the people engaged to the street food shops to wear the kitchen apron to ensure quality food served to the consumers.
She said that apart from the administration it is also the responsibility of the consumers to check if the food vendors are abiding by the food safety rules.
