GT recruitment: TRBT says process to be completed before Durga Puja

Job aspirants who qualified the Selection Test for Graduate Teachers (STGT) on Wednesday urged the Teachers' Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT) to expedite the document verification process and publish the merit list, claiming that no progress had been made even four months after the declaration of the examination results.

A delegation of successful candidates submitted a memorandum to the TRBT chairman seeking early completion of document verification and publication of the final merit list.

Speaking to reporters, representatives of the candidates said the recruitment process had remained stalled despite the results being declared. They claimed that the recruitment process for Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) had already been completed and selected candidates had joined their respective schools.

They also said the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) had been conducted twice in recent years, while the STGT recruitment process remained incomplete.

According to the candidates, recruitment of graduate teachers had remained suspended for several years. Although the examination was eventually conducted and the results declared, they alleged that no progress had been made on document verification, scrutiny or publication of the final merit list.

Reacting to the matter, TRBT Chairman Pratyush Ranjan Deb said, “The aspirants are concerned about the merit list and recruitment process. We have informed them that due to some technical problems we have been unable to proceed with the remaining portion of the recruitment process.” 

According to Deb, in the last 26 months TRBT has conducted seven selection tests of teachers of various levels, which is an exceptional case altogether. 

“Generally, we take two or three exams a year but this year has been an exception. In the last 26 months, we conducted seven examinations. In addition, the government wanted us to release the recommendation list of UGT and GT candidates who appeared in TET I and TET II. So our manpower was busy dealing with these tasks,” he said. 

The TRBT chairman also asserted that recent court judgement directing the recruitment board to conduct physical verification of claims made by aspirants about their previous service records had also added additional burden on it. 

“In the document verification process we rejected some candidates who later moved to the High Court. The High Court directed us to issue them TET certificates after proper verification. Several candidates have mentioned in their documents that they had undergone teachers training while being in service in different parts of the country. The only option lies with us is to physically verify the schools where they are serving. In our inspection it was found that the names of schools mentioned in their documents don’t really exist,” he said. 

According to Deb, the TRBT had been working hard to make sure that all the remaining processes are wrapped up before Durga Puja since plans were afoot to conduct another TET exam in December.
