Heavy Rain forces closure of Schools and Postponement of exam in Tripura

With relentless rainfall lashing West Tripura and Sepahijala districts, the state government on Monday ordered the suspension of classes across all Government, Government‑aided, and Private schools to safeguard students. 

The directive came amid warnings that the downpour was likely to continue for several hours, raising concerns over waterlogging and unsafe travel conditions.

District Education Officers were instructed to issue immediate closure notices, ensuring that no institution remained open during the adverse weather. 

In a parallel move, the Secondary Education Department announced the postponement of the scheduled ‘Bochor Bachao’ examination under the Tripura Board of Secondary Education. Officials confirmed that a revised date will be declared later, and schools have been asked to promptly inform students and parents of the change.

Authorities stressed that the precautionary measures were aimed at protecting not only students but also teachers and staff. With flooding already reported in low‑lying areas, residents have been urged to remain indoors unless travel is unavoidable. District administrations are monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with emergency services to respond to any escalation.

The government’s swift action underscores the seriousness of the weather threat and its commitment to prioritising public safety during this prolonged spell of heavy rain.
