Heavy rainfall forces closure of Katakhal Embankment & Pragati Road stretch in West Tripura

West Tripura District Administration has moved swiftly to protect lives as continuous heavy rainfall rendered two major routes unsafe for public movement. 

The Katakhal Embankment and the stretch from Durga Chowmuhani to the backside of Pragati Road have been declared off‑limits following an official advisory issued by District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar, IAS.

Authorities warned that the persistent downpour has left both routes highly vulnerable to embankment failure, severe waterlogging, and accident risks. 

Exercising powers under Sections 26, 30, and 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the administration directed residents, commuters, and vehicle operators to avoid the affected roads until further notice and to rely on alternative routes.

The advisory, described as a precautionary measure, appeals for public cooperation in ensuring smooth implementation of restrictions. Officials acknowledged the inconvenience but stressed that safeguarding lives must remain the priority.

District authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as heavy rain disrupts normal life across West Tripura. The restrictions will remain in force until weather conditions improve and the affected routes are declared safe for travel.
