Heavy Security blanket ahead of ADC Polls in Tripura; 24 CAPF Companies deployed

With campaigning for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections set to conclude Friday evening, the state police have rolled out extensive security measures to ensure peaceful polling across all 28 constituencies.

Director General of Police Anurag announced that 24 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been sanctioned by the Centre, supplementing state police and Tripura State Rifles personnel. “Polling stations have been categorised based on vulnerability, and forces will be deployed accordingly to prevent any untoward incidents,” he said.

Of the CAPF units, 12 companies are from the Border Security Force, 10 from the Sashastra Seema Bal, and 2 from the Central Reserve Police Force. Four companies have already arrived in Tripura, while the remaining 20 are expected shortly. These reinforcements will be spread across constituencies to strengthen security arrangements.

Voting will take place on April 12, with counting scheduled for April 17. The elections are expected to witness a four-cornered contest among the BJP, CPI(M), Congress, and Tipra Motha, with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) also fielding candidates.

In the run-up to polling day, parties have carried out extensive campaigns through rallies, bike processions, and door-to-door outreach. Authorities, however, remain focused on ensuring that the electoral exercise is conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
