Agartala, Nov 29: Members of the Tripura Indigenous Students’ Federation (TISF) took to the streets of Agartala on Saturday to protest the state government's decision to convert the historic Pushpabanta Palace into a five-star hotel. The organization also submitted a deputation to the Tourism Department demanding the preservation of the palace's heritage.
Speaking to reporters, a TISF leader expressed concern over the reported decision, which came to light through social media. “Development cannot come at the cost of erasing history,” he said, emphasizing the cultural significance of Pushpabanta Palace, a symbol of Tripura’s royal heritage.
The leader criticized past attempts to disregard Tripura’s history and urged citizens from all communities to unite against the move. “We all want progress, but no one has the right to erase our history,” he stated, calling for state-wide resistance to preserve the identity and heritage of the state.
