Higher Education Minister meets Scholar to discuss future of Sanskrit in Tripura

Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman on Wednesday held a special discussion at the Secretariat with Dr. Bulti Das, Assistant Professor in the Department of Sanskrit at the National Sanskrit University.

The meeting followed Dr. Das's widely noted observations on social media regarding the state of Sanskrit education in Tripura’s colleges and universities, its challenges, and future prospects.

Minister Barman said he was impressed by the constructive nature of Dr. Das's suggestions and invited her for a detailed exchange of views. During the meeting, both sides explored ways to expand and strengthen Sanskrit education across the state. Several of Dr. Das’s proposals were described as practical and significant, and officials have been directed to examine them closely and take necessary steps.

The Minister expressed gratitude to Dr. Das for her thoughtful contributions, stressing that constructive criticism and citizen participation are vital for the advancement of education and cultural development. He noted that meaningful dialogue can help shape policies that safeguard heritage while meeting modern academic needs.

Barman emphasized that Sanskrit, as a language of tradition and knowledge, deserves renewed attention in Tripura’s education system. He reiterated that the government welcomes positive ideas from citizens to enhance the state’s progress, strengthen its education framework, and promote cultural enrichment.

This engagement between policymaking and academia is being seen as a step toward ensuring that the voices of scholars and educators play a decisive role in shaping the future of language education in Tripura.
