Belonia, March 13: In a major fire incident broke out on Monday afternoon, a residential house at Kalinagar area of Belonia sub-division was completely gutted, while the family members managed to escape the fire.

Alarmed by the incident, two fire engines wheeled to the spot and managed to restrict spreading of the fire to the nearby houses and other properties. Although the actual cause of the fire could not be known, it was primarily believed that the fire erupted from the gas stove in the kitchen of the house.

According to the house owner – Narayan Pal, at least nine rooms of his house along with the rented house were completely burned in the fire. The second officer of the fire engine crew informed that the incident had incurred a loss of over 50 lakhs to the house owner. A Four-wheeler vehicle parked in the house premises was also burned.

On the other hand, the Chairman of the Belonia Municipal Council Nikhil Chandra Gope, along with the Mandal president of the BJP party Gautam Sarkar rushed to the incident spot and took stock of the situation of the affected family.

They appealed to the government for compensation to the affected family, while the mandal president Gautam Sarkar assured of helping the family from the party's end.
