Housing push gains momentum in Agartala's Bordowali as PMAY-U 2.O work orders distributed

The promise of affordable housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0 took a concrete step forward in Ward No. 18 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) with the distribution of work orders to 28 beneficiaries. 

The initiative forms part of the first Detailed Project Report (DPR) for 2026–27 and signals the government’s intent to accelerate urban housing delivery.

BJP corporator Abhishek Dutta, who presided over the programme, highlighted that 34 families had been selected under the scheme in the ward. While six beneficiaries are yet to begin construction due to financial hurdles, the remaining 28 have now received formal approval to start building. 

Dutta stressed that the scheme’s benefits are being extended to all eligible citizens without political bias, ensuring inclusivity in welfare delivery.

The corporator underscored that financial assistance under PMAY-U 2.0 has been significantly enhanced — each beneficiary will now receive Rs 2.5 lakh, up from the earlier Rs 1.66 lakh. The support will be disbursed in four installments: two of Rs 50,000 and two of Rs 75,000. Of the total, Rs 2.25 lakh will come from the Centre, with the state contributing Rs 25,000.

Tracing the ward’s housing progress, Dutta noted that only one house had been sanctioned under the fifth DPR before the BJP assumed office in AMC. Since his election, 36 houses were sanctioned under the sixth DPR, followed by 28 under the seventh DPR, reflecting a marked expansion in housing coverage.

The distribution of work orders is expected to provide a fresh impetus to urban housing development in Bardowali, aligning with the broader national goal of “Housing for All.”
