The Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP), implemented under the Department of Tribal Welfare, Government of Tripura, is opening new horizons for livelihood development in tribal-dominated areas of the state.Â
Â
A shining example of this progress can be seen in the Ompi RD Block of Gomati district, where extraordinary success has been achieved despite limited resources and manpower.
Â
With a dedicated team of just four staff members, led by Block Project Manager Sushmita Saha, the block has demonstrated that strong willpower, commitment, and focused effort can overcome any constraint.Â
Â
Through their relentless work, a total of 100 Producer Groups (PGs) have been formed, including 32 agriculture, 32 fisheries, and 36 livestock groups.
Out of these, 87 PGs have received financial assistance, comprising approximately Rs. 5.22 crore as working capital (at a nominal 3% interest rate) and Rs. 43.50 lakh as establishment grants. As a result, 70 PGs are now fully operational, significantly boosting the rural economy of the region.
Â
A notable success story is the Chasanai Producer Group from Baishyamani VC, which produced over 36,000 kg of pumpkin in a single season—setting a benchmark for productivity and collective farming. By adopting scientific methods and working together, the group has achieved impressive profits, inspiring other villages to follow suit.
Â
One of the most impactful outcomes of this initiative is the empowerment of tribal women. They are no longer just participants but have emerged as key drivers of economic change. Their growing confidence, self-reliance, and social standing reflect the transformative impact of the project.
Â
The Ompi RD Block’s success story highlights a powerful lesson: success does not depend on large teams or abundant resources, but on sincerity, dedication, and perseverance. Through effective leadership and teamwork, TRESP has proven that sustainable development and a brighter future are achievable even in remote tribal regions.
Â
Funded by the World Bank, TRESP is currently being implemented across 23 blocks in eight districts of Tripura under the leadership of the Department of Tribal Welfare.
