Intl conference on Chakma language, scripts, culture begins in Tripura

Agartala, Nov 12: Development of language, script and culture is essential for safeguarding the existence of any community, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said on Saturday.
Dr. Saha, who inaugurated a three-day international conference on Chakma language, script and culture at Nazrul Kalakshetra in Agartala, said the present state government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to safeguard the culture, language and tradition of every community.
The conference has been organized by International Chakma Sahitya and Sudom Jodha (ICSSJ) in collaboration with DHUDUK (cultural organization).
The Chief Minister said, Chakma community is one among the 19 tribes and their sub-tribes in the state and this community is marching ahead in all fields including education and culture.
Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education Santana Chakma, who attended the inaugural session, said apart from loving own culture and tradition, one also needs to respect the culture, tradition and language of other communities.
No community should forget their own culture and language. It is the responsibility of the people from the respective communities to safeguard their culture and language, she said.
The welcome address was delivered by Amitabh Chakma. MLA from Mizoram Budadhan Chakma and Debjan Chakma were also present.
The Chakma people residing in various other countries also joined the international conference in virtual mode.
