The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) organised a one-day seminar at Chechua Community Hall under the Ampi Nagar block in Gomati district on Saturday.
The programme was organised by the IPFT North Amarpur Division and was attended by a large number of indigenous party activists from various village committees under the Ampi block. The seminar focused on organisational matters and issues related to the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), the officials said.
Addressing the gathering, senior IPFT leader Sindhu Chandra Jamatia said the party continued to raise issues concerning indigenous communities living in the TTAADC areas and called for cooperation among community members to pursue its stated political objectives. His remarks were made in the context of preparations for the forthcoming ADC elections, the officials added.
The party also organised a joining programme during the seminar, in which 48 voters, who had quit other political parties, formally joined the IPFT, according to the organisers.
IPFT North Amarpur divisional president Braja Dayal Jamatia welcomed the new members and said their induction would strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level. He briefly outlined the party’s organisational activities in the Ampi region, the officials said.
Several party leaders and functionaries were present at the event, including Sunil Debbarma, Chairman of the Mungiakami Block Advisory Committee, former divisional president Binoy Kumar Jamatia, IWFT central assistant general secretary Milan Devi Jamatia, and Maniram Kalai, a member of the IPFT central committee. Other local leaders and activists also attended the programme.
Party officials said similar organisational meetings and outreach programmes would be held in other parts of the district as part of preparations ahead of the ADC elections.
